The Only Vegan Restaurant in Jacó: Karma Café

The Only Vegan Restaurant in Jacó: Karma Café

Happy Sunday wanderers and welcome back to another post. Recently on a beach weekend in Jacó, Costa Rica, I had the pleasure of stumbling upon a new vegan restaurant I had not tried before, Karma Café & Restaurant. We stayed with very kind Airbnb hosts Mike & Abbie who just happened to be vegan and gave us this amazing restaurant recommendation.

The restaurant opened in 2019 and is the first 100% plant-based restaurant in all of the Puntarenas Province. Although I have found countless restaurants down the Pacific coast of Costa Rica with vegan options, it is always nice to eat somewhere that you know, without a doubt, you can get whatever you would like off of the menu.

Limonada 1700₡ / Lemonade $2.97

Everything at this restaurant is delivered to your table with presentation in mind. When I ordered a lemonade I did not expect it to come blended and with a compostable straw. Everything is well thought out.

Alitas de Coliflor 3900₡ / Cauliflower Wings $6.80

Buffalo cauliflower wings are always a crowd favorite. They came with the buffalo sauce on the side which is perfect because they wont get soggy. They also came with a side of vegan mayo. The mayo wasn’t as exciting as a blue cheese or ranch substitute might have been, but it did the job. Although the mayo wasn’t my favorite, the creaminess would do a great job of cutting the spice for those with a weaker spice tolerance.

Hambergesa Carne de Soya Tirada 6750₡ / Pulled “Pork” Burger $11.77

I chose the pulled pork imitation burger for my meal. The base was a pulled soy meat tossed in barbecue sauce. The burger also had pickles, slaw, and once again the mayo. I had the choice of a side salad, fries, or onion rings. Although I was dying to try the onion rings I opted for the salad so I wouldn’t get too full. Overall, for me, the burger was good and not great. I am definitely someone who leans towards spicy and savory foods. For me the combination of the bread, barbecue sauce and mayo was too sweet and bland. It needed some sort of a savory element or kick. This is definitely an amazing choice for you sweet tooths out there. I ended up eating the barbecue soy meat on top of the salad and loved it!

Pasta Carbonara 6750₡ / $11.77

This was hands down the best dish of the night! The creaminess of the pasta with the delicious faux bacon and sausage bits made for the perfect delectable and savory meal. I would absolutely get it again and recommend it to anyone!

Overall, I would give this restaurant a 10/10. They are doing amazing things! The air-conditioned café overlooking Jacó’s main strip is the perfect place to beat the heat or grab a nice dinner. The food itself is executed and presented amazingly. I would recommend anyone to check it out regardless of their diet. They are located just above Rebelissimo Gelato next to Costa Juice on the main strip. They also do an amazing iced coffee!

I hope you all enjoyed this post!

Wander often & wonder always,
